The Item Details Display

When you click on the Item Details tab, the Search Results window changes to display full information for the row that was selected in the Match List. Each of the database fields for which there is information will be displayed. (In the example shown above, there is nothing entered for the Source field, so no Source line is displayed.)

Size and price reflect the currency and measurement unit choices, though sizes will also be shown in parentheses using the other measurement units. You can change the unit selections from the Units menu, in the same way as described for the Match List.

The Map-Maker, portions of the References, and the dealer’s name in the Catalogue field are displayed in blue, and are underlined. This indicates that further information is available by clicking on these highlighted areas. The additional information is displayed in the small area at the bottom of the window. If you click on the Map-Maker name, a small bit of additional biographical information will be shown. Typically this includes the map-maker’s full name, place where he or she worked, and dates (either birth/death dates or approximate dates when active as a map-maker). The example above will show the following if you click on the blue-underlined WALDSEEMULLER:

If you click on a blue-underlined name in the Reference field, a full bibliographical entry for the reference book will appear in the bottom window. The following will be displayed if you click on Suarez, T. (Veil) in the above example:

Notice the [Review] link. This indicates that the reference book was reviewed in the Antique Map Price Record, and if you click on this link the review will be brought up in your system’s web browser. (If this does not work, giving an error such as "Can’t launch browser", see the section on Linking to your Browser for instructions on how to work around this problem.)

If you click on a blue-underlined dealer name in the Catalogue field, contact information (address, phone numbers, e-mail and web address) will be shown. (No contact information is shown for dealers who are no longer in business.) The following will be displayed if you click on Martayan Lan in the above example:

Note the blue-underlined web address in the dealer’s contact information. Click on this to bring up your system’s web browser, loaded with the home page for the dealer. (If this does not work, giving an error such as "Can’t launch browser", see the section on Linking to your Browser for instructions on how to work around this problem.)

You can control whether the Original AMPR Title is displayed in the item details window. Initially it is not displayed. To turn on its display, select Show Original Title from the View menu. If the Original AMPR Title is exactly the same as the Title, "(same)" will be shown. If there are any differences at all between the two versions of the title (including just variations in upper/lower-casing), the Original AMPR Title will be shown in full.

You can print the currently displayed item details by selecting Print from the File menu (or typing Ctrl-P). You can also copy the item detail information to the clipboard, by selecting Copy to Clipboard from the File menu (or typing Ctrl-C). The copied text can then be pasted into any other application.

You can move from the item details of one record to the next, or backwards to the previous item, by clicking on the Next or Previous buttons. The label above the details display indicates which row in the Match List has its details currently displayed. If you switch back to the Match List (by clicking on the Match List tab), the list will highlight whichever row was last viewed in the Item Details display.

You can also use the keyboard to move to different items, without going back to the Match List:

Left or Up Arrow or Page Up  Go to previous item (same as the Previous button)

Right or Down Arrow or Page Down Go to next item (same as the Next button)

Home     Go to the first item

End     Go to the last item

Ctrl+Left, Up, or Page Up  Go to the first item (same as Home)

Ctrl+Right, Down, or Page Down Go to the last item (same as End)

You can also use the <Enter> key on your keyboard to move from one item to the next in the Item Details window. The direction of movement (forwards or backwards) depends upon the direction in which you most recently moved (using the Next or Previous buttons, or the keyboard navigation keys).

If the record whose item details you are looking at is one for which you would like to see all other closely related AMPR records, then choose one of the items from the Refine menu. This will cause the display to switch back to the Match List, which will now display the refined list. See the section on Refining the List for information on this capability.
