The Antique Map Price Record
Map Collection Manager

For information on the MRP Collection Manager - software for managing any kind of collection - click here. The Map Collection Manager is identical in functionality with the MRP Collection Manager, except that it is:

  • Specific to map collections (rather than generalized for different kinds of collections)
  • Integrated with the AMPR CD-ROM database and program
  • Provided, at no additional cost, on the AMPR CD-ROM

Any collection is improved by being well documented. And a map collection is no exception. With a good record of what is in your map collection, you can:

  • Keep track of what you have and what you don’t have, to quickly and accurately help you decide which maps that appear on the market might be of interest to you.
  • Provide documentation for insurance purposes, whether identifying items to be added to an insurance policy or whether substantiating a claim after a loss.
  • Increase the intellectual interest of your collection, and perhaps its financial value as well, by providing a place for you to document what you have and to add commentary on your maps, to whatever degree of detail you desire.
  • Have a “virtual” collection, including map descriptions and digital images, which you can take with you on a laptop computer, allowing you to access your collection even when far from home.

The AMPR Map Collection Manager (MCM) was designed as an easy-to-use tool for documenting your collection. It is versatile, powerful and flexibile enough to accommodate each map collector’s own idea of what information should be recorded about the maps in his or her collection.

The MCM is not sold as a separate product. Rather, the MCM is fully integreted with the MS/Windows version of the Antique Map Price Record. Therefore, if you purchase the AMPR, you get the MCM for free. (Or, seen the other way around, if you purchase the MCM, you also get a database, with over 113,000 records, covering 25 years of the antiquarian map trade, for free.).

Here are a few annotated screen shots of the MCM, giving you a quick sense of what it is like to work with the program.

In addition to viewing your collection as a list or as a set of detail records, you can search, sort, print, subset, import (from Excel or ASCII text), export (to Excel or ASCII text), edit data, delete records, create multiple collections, etc., etc. You can also add new records to your collection using a record from the AMPR historical database as a template, and you can ask to search the historical database for all records that match the currently selected map in your collection.

To get a fuller view of the MCM, look at the MCM User's Guide.
